A Brief History
|
 |
Tile Hill Basketball Club was conceived as far back as 1972 when Caludon Lions admitted the players from an emerging Chrysler basketball society to its membership. A new era, new friendships, and a new club began.
After a while, however, some members of the Chrysler squad wished to taste their independence. They moved away and became self-sufficient, but only for a short time. Caludon remained at their original home, while Chrysler moved to Whitley Abbey. Following one season at Hinckley the two became formally united once more. They pounded the boards at Caludon, until moving to the new Alderman Callow School in Canley, in 1980. |
As Callow Casuals, the first team entered Division One of the Warwickshire League with great commitment but little success. In fact, they have yet to recreate the halcyon days of the mid-seventies when the Club won the First Division Championship twice, although they did finish runners-up in 1995. Several other successes have been achieved though during their twenty-nine year history, and their two sides have played in the Second Division for the past three seasons.
Seventeen seasons after becoming Alderman Callow Basketball Club, another move took them the short journey to Tile Hill, when they introduced another name change, and where links with the college have prospered.
In 2001, the Club unanimously voted to embark on an ambitious plan to achieve Accredited Status from England Basketball.

Philosophy
It is the philosophy of the Club, that they will provide facilities, coaching and competitive basketball for men, women and young players of both sexes, and to become a formal England Basketball Accredited Club
Tile Hill Basketball Club has always encouraged its members to participate in every aspect of basketball i.e. playing, coaching, refereeing, table officiating and social activities.
The Club will continue with this policy in the future, believing that it promotes a 'team spirit' within the organisation and its membership. |
