Trojan Colts- A New Era - August 12 2010
Trojan Colts- A New Era
The long established Warwickshire league club Tile Hill Trojans has formed a new junior team to compete in the Warwickshire league with players coming through from the clubs youth development program. The team played its first match on Wednesday this week away to a new mens team based in Rugby, who will also be competing in the Warwickshire league this season.

Trojans got off to a strong start with centre Matt Jenner scoring 9 first quarter points as they surged to a 17-12 lead at the end of the period, having held Rugby basketless for 5 minutes in the first period. Rugby responded in the second quarter with some aggressive defence and back to back three pointers from Prit Parmer saw them tie the game at 26 -26 with two minutes to play to halftime, and just edge to lead 28-30 at the half time buzzer.

The young Trojans squad dominated the third quarter, holding the opposition to just 7 points and scoring 18 as they forced Rugby to make turnovers and then capitalised on the fast break. Rugby stepped up their game in the last quarter and started to dominate inside as their 6ft7 centre started to find his form. Rugby edged in to the lead 57-58 for the first time in the last quarter with less than a minute to play, Tile Hill lost possession and with 18 seconds left had to foul sending Rugbys Parmer to the free throw line. Parmer calmly hit both free throws and Trojans quickly got the ball up court and put up a three point shot to tie the game which came up short. Rugby ran out victors 57-62. Former Crusaders Junior point guard Billy top scored for Trojans with 18pts, including two three pointers.

Trojans V Wildcats the second installment - August 6 2010
Trojans V Wildcats the second installment
The second Trojans Wildcats game took place on Sunday 25th July at Chessington Sports Centre. Trojans were without several key players, so were able to give debuts to Tom Anderson and Matt Jenna. The Wildcats were also missing players, but there were no youngsters available to step in for them. A good game, played in good spirit was close for 3 quarters but ended with an 87 - 69 win for Kingston.
The game started well for the Trojans who jumped out to a 6 - 0 lead. Kingston stuttered through the first 3 minutes without scoring. Carl Plunkett soon woke up to hit 3 threes in the first quarter giving the Wildcats a 16 - 10 lead after one period.
Last year's MVP guard Wes Chantler pulled down 7 rebounds in the first half, while Mark Bottiglia handed out 7 assists. Ross Emery led the Trojans revival with back to back threes mid way through the second quarter. However Kingston matched Tile Hill and headed to the half time break still with a 6 point lead 35 - 29.
The Wildcats started the second half with more threes including 4 more from Plunkett. Tile Hill found their shooting range too with threes from Anderson, Owen, Krupa and Jenna. With under 2 minutes to go in the quarter Kingston were up by 10. But a fight back led by the two Tile Hill debutants pulled the score back to 55 - 48 at the end of the third. The final quarter started slowly for Tile Hill, by the third minute more sharp shooting by the Wildcats had pushed their lead out to 19 points. Back to back threes from Jabob Krupa cut into that lead and with Jason Edwards controlling the boards the Wildcats lead was cut to 11 with 3 minutes to go. From there in Trojans just seemed to run out of steam, as the experienced Wildcats team protected their lead by running the clock down before getting good open shots. The final score wasn't indicative of the whole game and Tile Hill can feel they were a good match for a team that has reached the final of the National Founders Cup for the past three seasons.

Scorers Tile Hill: Tim Duckers 5, Scott Owen 11, Jacob Krupa 11, Jason Edwards 11, Ross Emery 12, Tom Anderson 13, Matt Jenna 6.
Kingston: Matt Pye 13, Carl Plunkett 24, Wes Chantler 11, Horacio Lopez 11, Mark Bottiglia 12, Mike Sullivan 8, Roger Lloyd 8.

Are you collecting the new vouchers on offer at Sainsburys and Tesco? If so how about donating them to Trojans?

We are registering our Club in both schemes which will give us the chance to obtain new balls, kit and equipment for our young Trojans to use.

So let's see how many we can get over the next few weeks and months so we can give our kids a real boost for the new season.

Wehave around fifteen regulars coming to Hereward on Thursdays from 6-7 and they are really fired up to play our number one sport!
