A quick update - February 3 2012
A quick update
In the Second Division competition, non-league Temple PM Rebels took the honours at Tile Hill 3 with a battling 111-108 victory after getting ten points off the handicappers, and they are joined in finals week by Ernesford Eagles who had to fight all the way before defeating Coventry Tornadoes 88-81.

The Plate competition semi finals saw both Tile Hill’s First Division sides square up to each other and it produced a fascinating contest. Starting at 0-55 the League Champions, who went out to Aylesford earlier in the season, had to wait until the final quarter before they overtook their Seconds, and then they ran amok in those last ten minutes with Scotty Owen in scintillating form rattling in nineteen to finish with 28.

VINTAGE TROJANS TAKE TITLE - January 27 2012
VINTAGE TROJANS TAKE TITLE
Tile Hill Trojans turned the clock back almost forty years by winning back to back titles for the first time since the mid-seventies as they defeated rivals Aylesford Hawks 90-73 to gain revenge in the best possible way for their cup beating a couple of weeks ago. And they did it with a huge last period surge, inspired by Joel Stephenson who hit 12 points as Trojans went from 73-70 to 88-70 before Hawks grabbed a consolation three pointer. But the night belonged to the triumphant Trojans and in particular their other shooting hotshot Tom Anderson who has come of age this season with some superb performances.

The youngster, who was a rebel in his early days has matured like a good wine and chose this match to achieve a season high score of 28 and added a dozen assists for good measure on the way. The game result was only decided in that final few minutes after both sides served up a feast of basketball with Hawks own play-maker Alex Birch turning in one of his best performances as he took control of the plays in the absence of Ricky Fennell but the returning Gary Pennington led Hawks offense with 28 as Birch made 21. For the victorious Trojans, Richard Onions commanded the boards well to get 17 and Stephenson had earlier posted four more to take his tally to 16.

Trojans 2, sitting still without a win at the opposite end of the table to their first team almost got over the line against Arden before going down 75-78 and this after losing heavily at Rugby. There were wins in Division Two for Trojans Colts who turned over Coventry Tornadoes, Warwick Bears who took out a spirited Trojans 3.

Mixed Fortunes - January 20 2012
Mixed Fortunes
Tile Hill Trojans sides enjoyed mixed fortunes. The first team leading the way at the top of Division One slammed GAC 102-64, with 25 from Scott Owen, while Trojans 2, at the other end of the table were on the receiving end at Rugby where Rage won 87-42. In Division Two it was a similar tale as the veterans of Trojans 3 were whipped up by Coventry Tornadoes 88-52 as Paul Crook made 22 and Kane Hudson 20, and the young Colts side squeezed out Ernesford Eagles 76-71 thanks mainly to 34 from 17 year old Billy Paronia.

Trojans March On - December 16 2011
Trojans March On
Tile Hill Trojans 1 kept up their winning ways with a 78-64 victory over Rugby Rage, but it was not until the final three minutes that they pulled away. Leading 63-62, it was left to youngsters Tom Anderson and Matt Jenner to see the Champions home as they hit 22 and 15 respectively.

GAC also made it to the winners rostrum as they beat Trojans 2 87-74. Division Two runaway leaders Westwood Rhinos broke through the challenge of Trojans 3 early in the game to win comfortably at 67-32.

Vets get a W! - December 9 2011
Vets get a W!
In Division Two, there was a first win of the season for Trojans 3 where the veterans defeated Rugbys second string 114-98 after starting 60-50 ahead. Trojans managed to keep their noses in front throughout although Rugby came to within four at one stage. Mike Buckley led Trojans home on 19 with Axel Huhle on 16.

Trojans Colts, who have been flying were brought down to earth after failing in their attempts to pull back 70 points on non-league Temple PM Rebels. The youngsters were gradually whittling away the deficit until the final minutes when their star man Billy Paronia ran out of steam and missed with five consecutive threes as he tried in vain to add to his mammoth 47 point haul. Dave Fiddlers 18 saw Rebels home with Trojans eleven short.

Billy Top Scorer for 2 teams - December 2 2011
Billy Top Scorer for 2 teams
Tile Hill Colts shocked league leaders Westwood as they tore into the previously unbeaten Rhinos with young Billy Paronia back from first team duty in sparkling form. Paronia, with 27 glided through with ease to take Colts up to second place with a superb 81-64 victory.

Ernesford Eagles had to come from behind to defeat bottom of the table Tile Hill Trojans 3, and they did so in style. Trailing 38-39 inside the final period, Eagles struck with 15-0 and went on to record a 63-43 success, with 18 from Tony Bates as Mike Buckley made 19 for Trojans.

In Division One, second placed Aylesford Hawks were too good for GAC despite a late flurry which brought them from 68-45 down to the final score of 76-67 as Hawks Alex Birch found his form with 24. It was not quite so comfortable for leaders Tile Hill Trojans 1 at Tamworth where Tigers fought hard to gain a 44-36 half time lead. Then Trojans came good as young Billy Paronia lead the way hitting 24 as Tom Anderson grabbed 22 in support and Steve Foster scored 24 for Tigers.

A quick update
Tile Hill Trojans put in a poor fourth quarter but still managed to hold the aces over Arden Griffins as Trojans won 64-48 with Matt Jenner having his best game to grab 18.

Warwick Bears- John Mumfords young side were far too good for the veterans at Tile Hill 3, as were Westwood Rhinos who dealt a similar blow to Ernesford Eagles. Tile Hill Colts however sneaked it at Coventry Tornadoes by two points

Home Derby - November 17 2011
Home Derby
Trojans 1 were moments away from a shock at the hands of their second string in the all-Tile Hill clash at Hereward College. There appeared to be little to concern the seniors' coach Ross Alexander as his side moved into a 25-10 lead but the six-man squad, without a win so far, had other ideas. Inspired by young debutant Billy Paronia, they came hard after Scott Owen was taken off with an ankle injury and pushed their way back into the game. From 52-36 it started to rain baskets with Paronia on target four times to get it to 60-56 before going out with cramp and the champions cashed in to win 73-58. Paronia hit 22 with Charles Back on 21 as Alun Sweeney and Richard Onions shared 28 for TH1.

TABLE TOPPERS SERVE UP FIREWORKS - November 11 2011
TABLE TOPPERS SERVE UP FIREWORKS
When the former champions travel to meet the current champions two days before bonfire night there are bound to be fireworks and there certainly were as Tile Hill Trojans 1 played host to Aylesford Hawks in a crucial league match.

Both sides were defending 100perc records, so something had to give and the way the game started was breath-taking from both sides. The defensive play was intense and the speed almost frightening at times as Trojans raced into an early 14-5 lead after Hawks Gary Pennington had sunk a rocket three-pointer to open proceedings. Hawks came back to trail 24-18 as the game entered the second quarter and then, with Alex Birch coming off the bench to inspire them, they closed to four points at half time trailing 44-40.

Tile Hill were in foul trouble early in the third period, as Hawks edged into the lead, but Trojans Dominik Gorgol hit two on the bounce to push his side ahead and set the stage for a thrilling climax.

Trojans stepped up the pressure as the pace refused to ease and they began to move away with veteran Trevor Robinson relishing space under the boards and he led Trojans home as Hawks tired. In the end they were well beaten at 84-70, but the score does not tell half of the story about a frenetic game of skill and pace. Robinson led Trojans on 26 and Birch headed for Hawks on 21.

Arden Griffins looked to be in for an easy night as they romped to 29-7 against Trojans 2, but the Coventry side, fresh from a drubbing by Rugby came back to make a game of it before succumbing 75-57. New man Alex Jironkin led for Trojans on 16 and Dan Opoku was the pick of the offensive bunch in a good points spread for Griffins as he made 15.

TROJANS SECONDS SUFFER BOUT OF ROAD RAGE - November 4 2011
TROJANS SECONDS SUFFER BOUT OF ROAD RAGE
Rage made the journey up the A45 to Tile Hill and smashed a weakened Trojans 2 for six by chalking up a massive 125-38 score-line which was also Trojans biggest ever home defeat. Admittedly, they had only five fit players plus a youngster, but they were no match for the growing Rugby outfit, who now boast around 30 members, all eager to paly in the team, which says lots for the hard work put in by Club Coach Gurjit Rupal.

Trojans, hoping to stay the course were unseated and fell at the first fence to go 9-32 down, and it got worse as Rage tore into the beleaguered home side to reach the turn with a lead of 69-21. It continued after the break with a 28-0 burst which broke what was left of Trojans hearts, and Rugby went on to pass the hundred at the start of the final quarter, before they closed with high-fives all round. Dell (28) and Roberts (26) led them home, with Trojans Charles Back picking up the pieces making a creditable 21.

On the other hand, Trojans first team enjoyed life at GAC where they took the home side apart with a thumping 101-47 victory to set themselves up for this weeks visit of Aylesford Hawks.

Westwood Rhinos kept up their challenge at the top of Division Two as they put a damper on Tile Hill Trojans 3 week. Rhinos, who are unbeaten so far took out Trojans 64-33 with several of their bench players getting some court action during the first half. Things changed after the interval though as Coach Robin Lewis brought on his big guns who put the game to bed in style.

COLTS FAIL TO HALT RHINOS CHARGE - October 31 2011
COLTS FAIL TO HALT RHINOS CHARGE
Westwood Rhinos preserved their 100perc record as they brought Tile Hill Trojans Colts unbeaten run to an end with a 77-49 victory.

And it was down to earth with a bump for the Tile Hill youngsters as Rhinos charged at them from the start. They ran into a 20-12 lead at the initial break, but with the second period just five minutes old, they stepped up their pressure and took the score from 28-20 to 48-20 to leave Colts reeling. Majiek Koslowski led the way as he slipped home nine of these twenty, but Rhinos top scorer was Greg Adams, who topped and tailed the game to seal a fine win with 23 and take his side to the top of the Division Two table. Billy Paronia was the only Trojans to hit the target with any constancy and he made 22. The battle of the elders took place at Hereward College where Trojans 3 were headed 49-40 by Ernesford Eagles despite Trojans leading at half time. It was tough throughout as 51 fouls were called and both defences were in form, to such an extent that the games top scorer was Trojans Mike Buckley who hit 16 as Kevin Rees replied for Eagles with 11.

In Division One, Trojans 1 were in no mood to let the game slip when they entertained Tamworth Tigers, and Trojans bossed the game throughout. They led by as much as 21 before easing into the final quarter and allowing Tigers to bite back with points of their own before closing the game with a Trojans 74-63 victory.

Trojans 1 Start On a High - October 21 2011
Trojans 1 Start On a High
Warwickshire Basketball League Champions Tile Hill Trojans 1 started their new campaign with a hard-fought 86-69 away win at Rugby Rage

For the second week running Rugby put up a good account of themselves against an established quality team and look to be settling nicely into life in Division One despite two straight losses. Trojans had to call upon all their guile and experience, as Rage pegged them back from a nine point 38-47 half-time deficit to trail by just one at the three-quarter mark and the game was delicately poised at 61-62. But Trojans then found the form which brought them the Championship last season to hit a 24-8 final period onslaught and seal the points.

Warwick Bears, who just missed the ton against Tile Hill 3, and Tile Hill Colts who made it two on the bounce as they came from 22 down to beat Coventry Tornadoes, Billy Paronia hitting 28 for Colts as Dan Smith made 24 for Tornadoes.

First week of the season! - October 14 2011
First week of the season!
There was drama at Tamworth where promoted Tigers hosted Tile Hill Trojans 2 and, after trailing 17-19 went on to win with ease 88-60 against the five-man Trojans, but the home side had their star player Jason Wigan sent off for throwing an elbow in the second quarter and he now misses 2 vital games at Aylesford and against League Champions Trojans 1.

In Division Two Coventry Tornadoes took the honours at Tile Hill where Trojans 3 were unable to deal with the silky shooting of Dan Smith - returning from retirement. He hit six three-pointers on the way to a 22 point haul as Tornadoes won 66-51, Mike Buckley scoring 21 for the home side.

The weeks top scorer though was Billy Paronia of Tile Hill Colts who eventually wore down the bigger stronger Ernesford Eagles side packed with experience, but unable to keep pace with the tricky 17 year old. He picked up 43 points, and despite 26 from Tony Bates and 23 from Ben Clarke, Colts headed the match 80-68.
